Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote hosting server or to exchange info between a server and a client. Since the info exchanged by the two sides is encoded, a third party can't intercept it, which makes SSH a favorite means of controlling an Internet hosting account. The commands which can be executed are determined by the type of hosting service. On a shared web server, in particular, the alternatives are limited as you won't have root access to the website hosting server, so you can only create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, etcetera. They are all actions which are carried out in the shared hosting account and don't require a higher level of access. Using a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll be able to set up server-side software or to restart the machine or just a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted with a command line, and if you do not use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are tons of apps for other OSs, which you can use to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Web Hosting

SSH access is available with all Linux cloud web hosting packages we provide. With some of them, it is featured by default, while with others it is an additional upgrade that you can add with just a few mouse clicks from your hosting Control Panel. You could get SSH access through the section related to it in which you shall also find the details that you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You will be able to select the password which you'll use and, if required, you shall be able to change it with a couple of clicks from the same spot. All of the commands which may be used with our shared packages are listed inside a help article alongside relevant examples. If the SSH access feature is enabled for your account, you shall also be able to upload files through your favorite FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Hosting

SSH access is provided as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server plans, while with others you may add it from the hosting Control Panel if necessary - even just for the current month. Either way, you can activate and de-activate the function with one mouse click via the SSH section of the CP. In the same place, you'll discover the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You'll also find a box where you may type in the password that you'd like to use, because it does not have to be the same as the one you use to log into the Control Panel. For better security, you may also change it as much as you need. A full list of the commands that can be performed in a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, along with the syntax and a number of examples. An extra function after SSH access is activated shall be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP through any FTP client that supports this kind of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS

All our virtual private server offers provide SSH access by default, so you will not have to add any upgrades or enable anything - as soon as the server is set up and you receive its login information, you'll be able to connect through its main IP address and the login credentials which you've chosen throughout the signup procedure. Since the VPS accounts come with full root-level access, there are no restrictions regarding the commands that you can run. Your server shall be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you shall be able to manage just about everything through a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. In this way, you'll be able to work with your files, databases and any applications you install in a fast and risk-free way.
